ANZAC Day Commemorations (25 April 2010) [fr]

The ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day commemorations, this year marking the 95th anniversary of the Gallipoli battle in which more than 10 000 Australian and New Zealand soldiers lost their lives during the First world war, today pay tribute all Australian soldiers in all conflicts. Commemorations were held around the world on the weekend of 24-25 April 2010, on the Gallipoli battle site (Turkey, Dardanelles), in the Pacific region (New Zealand, PNG, East Timor, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, French Polynesia…), and also in the main cities of France and Australia.

In France, at Villers-Bretonneux (Somme), Général d’’armée Mr. Bruno Cuche, Gouvernor of the Invalides, and Mr Stephen Smith, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the Dawn service to honour the memory and the commitment of the Australian soldiers who came and fought on French soil in the name of freedom and rights.
