The Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott to visit France for D Day commemorations.
The Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott will visit France as part of this year’s 70th anniversary commemorations of the D Day landings on Friday June 6. Mr. Abbott will join the President of the French Republic François Hollande and other heads of government at the British services at the Bayeux Cathedral and Cemetery and the international ceremony at Sword Beach, Ouistreham. He will be accompanied by seven Australian D Day veterans.
Mr. Abbott said he will also visit the Western Front, where 295 000 Australians served between 1916-18, and 46 000 lost their lives.
The Prime Minister will hold bilateral a meeting with the French President.
