"Choose France" Short Programs [fr]

The Embassy of France in Australia is supporting the establishment of short-term programs in the form of summer (or winter) schools co-organised by French and Australian tertiary education institutions, and bringing together students from both countries around a theme of common interest.

The call for projects is closed.

Please read the information below and contact education.canberra-amba@diplomatie.gouv.fr for more information.

The selected project benefits from the "Choose France" label as well as financial support from the embassy up to 4000 € (approx. 6300 $ AU, subject to current exchange rate) to contribute toward the organisation costs of the school.

Embassy funding is awarded to the Australian university participating in the project.

The objectives of the "Choose France" Short Programs are:

-  To support innovative initiatives in Franco-Australian university cooperation,
-  To boost student mobility between the two countries (in particular the mobility of Australians toward France),
-  To support the construction of ambitious institutional partnerships between French and Australian institutions,
-  To contribute to the constitution of sustainable scientific communities around themes of common interest for both countries.

In December 2017, a first Summer school co-organized by the Australian National University (ANU) and Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) was labelled "Creative France Australia". It focused on astrophysics, a priority area of collaboration for ANU and PSL and more specifically on astrobiology and exoplanets. Click HERE for more information.
In 2018, two new projects were selected :
- WASAA Academy New trends in information technologies
- European Campus Crossing Borders Short Term Program : Adding New Perspectives
Université d’Adelaïde / Université de Strasbourg
The two projects selected in 2019 were:
- Pacific Campus : students from Sydney and New Caledonia team up to solve regional health challenges
Université de Sydney / Université de Nouvelle Calédonie
- Sustainability in Bordeaux & Internet of Things summer schools
RMIT – University of Technology Sydney / INP Bordeaux

Types of projects funded

Projects eligible for the “Choose France Short Program” label are:
-  Short-term programs (1 to 4 weeks), which can be held at any time of the year ("summer", "winter" or other schools) in France or Australia;
-  Training programs involving students of all levels (L, M or D); this program is not intended to support the organisation of scientific seminars; two programs to support the organization of scientific seminars are also proposed by the Embassy and the AFRAN Association. However, it is possible to combine these tools by proposing, around the same theme, a scientific seminar and a short program and to apply for funding for both programs.

The funding attributed by the Embassy aims to contribute to the handling of organisation costs of the schools (displacement of the participants, hiring of rooms or material, promotional expenses…)

The project leaders should also indicate in their application the origin and amount of other sources of funding (host institutions, registration fees, sponsors, patrons).
