Environment – Climate – World Water Day (March 22, 2015) [fr]
On the occasion of World Water Day 2015 devoted to “water and sustainable development,” France reaffirms that, as underscored by the most recent United Nations World Water Development Report, if nothing changes, the planet will face a 40% global water deficit by 2030.
In order to address the risks of flooding and drought and the effects of climate change on the water cycle, France is fully mobilized to:
implement the right to water and sanitation, recognized by the UN since July 2010;
strengthen transboundary water cooperation;
establish a dedicated sustainable development goal for water;
take better account of water in adaptation and mitigation policies relating to greenhouse gas emissions.
The French Development Agency commits on average €700 million per year to water and sanitation operations in the most vulnerable countries.
