Francophonie Week in Canberra [fr]

For the first time in 2019, the Francophonie Committee, made up of Francophone diplomatic missions in Canberra, is organizing an entire Francophonie Week from the 18th to the 23rd of March 2019. To mark this occasion, many public events will be held in Canberra each day throughout this week.

Monday, 18th of March 2019, Inauguration of the Francophonie Week

This year, the Embassy of Morocco will host the opening ceremony of the Francophonie Week in Canberra.

Tuesday 19th of March 2019, Conference on La Francophonie

The Francophonie Committee in Canberra is pleased to invite you to a political conference dedicated to the following question: Can the International Organisation of La Francophonie be a tool for multilateralism?

His Excellency Mr. Christophe PENOT, Ambassador of France to Australia, His Excellency Mr. Paul MADDISON, High Commissioner of Canada, His Excellency Mr. Karim MEDREK, Ambassador of Morocco to Australia and Mrs. Gita KAMATH, Deputy Secretary of the Africa Department within DFAT will debate the issues raised by this question.

Moderator of the debate: David Wroe, journalist from the Sydney Morning Herald

This discussion will be followed by a presentation in French given by Mr. Maurice BANDAMAN, Minister for Culture and Francophonie in Ivory Coast and guest of honor for the week:
Francophonie and the development of its member countries: a closer look at the Ivory Coast.

Wednesday 20th of March 2019, Francophone Film

Place: Palace Electric
As part of the Alliance Française French Film Festival and thanks to the Embassy of Belgium, there will be a special event, a screening of the film ‘Keep Going’ directed by Joachim Lafosse.

Thursday 21st of March 2019, Francophone Film

As part of the Alliance Française French Film Festival and thanks to the High Comission of Canada , there will be a second special event, a screening of the film ‘Genesis’ directed by Philippe Lesage

Friday 22nd of March 2019, Francophonie Day

Francophonie Day at the Alliance Française de Canberra. From 3pm, come and meet representatives from the Francophone diplomatic missions based in Canberra and discover their cultures by tasting their local cuisine.

Friday 22nd of March 2019 Concert performed by Marc Aymon

Place: Alliance Française de Canberra, 66 McCaughey Street, Turner ACT 2612

To close the Francophonie week come and discover Swiss music thanks to Marc Aymon, songwriter accompanied by Ephraïm Salzmann. The two artists will highlight treasures of Swiss heritage with a modern and lively interpretation of traditional folk songs from the Swiss Alps
