French Day on Campus at Macquarie University [fr]
The Embassy recently launched a new initiative, the French Day on Campus, in order to educate Australian students about the study and research opportunities in France, promote the French language and culture, encourage academic and scientific partners, and more broadly increase awareness within Australian universities around the France of today.
The first French Day on Campus was held at Macquarie University on October 4 2017. It was organised collaboratively by the university, Campus France Australia (the Embassy service dedicated to the promotion of studies in France) andthe Alliance Française of Sydney, with input from the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce.
In the presence of H.E Mr Christophe Penot, Ambassador of France to Australia, Mr Nicolas Croizer, Consul-General of France in Sydney, and a visiting delegation from the University of Bordeaux, one of Macquarie University’s key partners in France, student and researchers were able to benefit from a day full of activities held in the spirit of France.
Among these was an information stand, a set by Athésia Music, gastronomy, information sessions on studying in France and the possibilities for scientific partnerships, and a Q&A session with the Ambassador and representatives from French companies.
Led by the President of the University of Bordeaux Professor Manuel Tunon de Lara, the delegation participated in many activities during the French Day in order to emphasise the specific opportunities made possible by the partnership between Bordeaux and Macquarie. In parallel, they also met with many members of the different faculties and departments at Macquarie to further develop the aspects of their collaboration, including the fields of neuroscience, cyber security, photonics and coastal management. As a Laureate of the “Initiative of Excellence” program, the University of Bordeaux places Australia as a priority area within their international strategy.
