Meeting between Alain Juppé and his Australian counterpart, Kevin Rudd (Jan. 19, 2012) [fr]
On January 19, Alain Juppé received Kevin Rudd, Australia’s Foreign Minister, who he will meet for the 3rd time in a year, following the consultations that they already held in Paris in April 2011 and the Ministre d’Etat’s visit to Australia in September 2011.
The two ministers opened “Australia Day,” organized by CampusFrance, during which the challenges of Franco-Australian university cooperation and the Australian higher education system and its internationalization will be presented.
During the political consultations and the working lunch that had follow, they addressed the issues relating to bilateral relations and major topical issues such as the situation in Syria, the reconstruction of Libya, Afghanistan, the Middle East peace process and Burma, where the Ministre d’Etat has just conducted a visit from January 15 to 16.
Alain Juppé and Kevin Rudd signed a strategic partnership agreement. This forms part of the process to strengthen bilateral relations. It will allow us to conduct high-level consultations in order to further promote our political, economic, military and cultural cooperation and to support the further integration of the French Pacific territories into their regional environment.
The two ministers held a joint press briefing at 12:30 pm at the Minister’s offices.
