Participation of the Ambassador at the European Summer School ‘Commemoration and Crisis: Europe in 2014’ conference
On Wednesday 22 January, H. E. Stéphane Romatet attended the European Summer School ‘Commemoration and Crisis: Europe in 2014’ conference. The Summer School is supported by the EU Centres of Australia and New Zealand, compressing the Monash European and EU Centre, the RMIT EU Centre, the ANU Centre for European Studies and the EU Centres Network (New Zealand).
The ambassador gave a speech in which he highlighted the meaning of the First World War centenary commemorations from a European perspective. He also emphasized the contribution that these commemorations will demonstrate, in a climate of mounting euroscepticism, Europe’s gratitude for Australians’ sacrifices. The Ambassador also stressed in his speech, the important role that these commemorations play in Australia and France’s bilateral relationship.
