On the 22nd of February 2019, Mr. Peter Harris was conferred Knight of the National Order of Merit by His Excellency Mr. Christophe Penot, Ambassador of France to Australia.
The National Order of Merit, created by the General de Gaulle in 1963, is awarded to French citizens and foreigners for distinguished military or civilian merits, rendered to France.
The Ambassador emphasized the fifteen years, for which Mr. Peter Harris has served the Tiger / Tiger Attack Helicopter and Taipan / NH90 Transport Programs in the Australian Defence and then AIRBUS and developed a rare expertise, for the mutual benefit of our relations.
Throughout his career, Mr. Peter Harris, Francophone and Francophile, has distinguished himself by leading the bilateral defence relations between France and Australia, particularly in the areas of defence equipment exports, operational use of helicopters and industrial cooperation.
With the blue ribbon pinned to his chest, Mr. Peter Harris expressed the honour it was to receive this distinction. He indicated how dear our common values are to him whilst also expressing his confidence in the future of the French-Australian defence cooperation.
The family of Mr. Harris and his friends, including many Australian defence authorities, all gathered at the Residence of France to attend the ceremony honouring his remarkable contribution to the cooperation and friendship between France and Australia.
