State-of-the-art microscope technology is set to revolutionise neuroscience research [fr]

Researchers from France and across Australia gathered together for the inaugural super-resolution microscopy symposium on 4 April at the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), University of Queensland.

Mr Stéphane Romatet, Ambassador of France to Australia, opened the event, joined by the Professor Peter Høj, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Queensland.

The symposium featured high profile national and international speakers, including Professor Daniel Choquet, the Director of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience, Bordeaux, France, and Professor Kat Gauss, University of NSW.

The symposium also showcased research and capabilities at the University of Queensland and provided training in the emerging technologies for postgraduate students and early career researchers.

The research in cell biology and neuroscience being undertaken at the University of Queensland is at the forefront of international endeavours, the Queensland Brain Institute is now equipped with an array of super-resolution microscopes and can now compete in this very active area of research.

Using super resolution microscopy, single molecules can be viewed in action inside living cells. This technology is extremely powerful and will assist researchers in solving complex questions surrounding how the brain works.

The symposium on super resolution microscopy was followed by a workshop organised by visiting French researchers, headed by Professor Daniel Choquet and Drs Jean-Baptiste Sibarita and Eric Hosy, from the Interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience in Bordeaux.
