The Embassy goes Green ! [fr]

The Embassy of France in Australia has committed for years to an environmental approach. In 2021, under the initiative of the Ambassador Jean-Pierre Thébault, the "Green Embassy" project has been largely expanded around three main scopes of actions.

Energy-efficient buildings

The energy renovation project is on track. A complete energy audit of the building stock was carried out at the end of 2021 and will allow work to be carried out in 2022, with the objective of significant energy savings (heating and air conditioning) and a largely reduced environmental impact.

Biodiversity promoted on the Embassy ground

Our biodiversity project has made it possible to rethink the Residence’s gardens to better take into account endemic species and to reduce our consumption. A vegetable garden has been created to supply the kitchen of the Residence. Priority was given to native plant species.

Three beehives were established through the capture of wild swarms in the park, while the natural beehives in the park have been preserved. Five insect hotels have also been installed.

Saving water

The sustainable water management project has resulted in the installation of seven rainwater tanks of 25,000 liters each, which will allow the collection and storage of a significant part of the rainwater collected through the roofs of the residence. The goal is to significantly reduce the amount of water used each year.
